FIVE POSH city colonies will take a glass of water with a pinch of salt, as 14 out of 15 samples taken from these localities were found unfit for consumption by a joint team of LMC, Jal Sansthan and CMO’s office.
Residents of Mahanagar, Nirala Nagar, Wireless crossing, Aliganj, Sitapur Road and Vikas Nagar are shocked as they don’t know how to go without water.
Municipal commissioner who was himself supervising all the operations in these localities was upset with the overall situation. He called on general manager Jal Sansthan to LMC office on Friday to do some plain speaking about the substandard water supply by Jal Sansthan in the city. “We are blamed for the spread of epidemics in the city, last time our Nagar Swasthya Adhikari was suspended due to the spread of epidemics in Yaseenganj. But what can we do if Jal Sansthan is supplying contaminated water?” asked a higher official of the LMC. “I just told the general manager that if this is the condition in the posh localities then only God can help those living in the slums or in the areas like Yaseenganj, Garhi Peer Khan, Yahiyaganj and other parts of old city. I will submit my report to the higher authorities regarding the poor condition of water supply in the city. It is for the authorities to decide about the action to be taken against the guilty officials,” said LMC chief VP Singh.
Earlier, officials of Jal Sansthan were taken to task for not giving details about the availability of bleaching powder in the Sansthan.
General manager Jal Sansthan RK Tripathi described his visit to LMC as routine in nature. “I have heard about mass sampling yesterday. But I am yet to receive the report, I can only comment after I go through the reports of the tests conducted by the joint team.”
“Jal Sansthan cannot be blamed for spread of epidemics in the city as the LMC keeps the lanes dirty, nullahs in Yasenganj, Garhi Peer Khan are overflowing, water is entering the houses. Then how can Jal Sansthan alone control the epidemics?” countered a Jal Sansthan official.
Meanwhile, residents of Yaseenganj, Garhi Peer Khan, Katara Bizen Beg, Chaupatiyan, are living under constant threat of epidemics.
The lanes are filthy, nullahs are choked, some times the nullah overflows and water enters the houses, residents are forced to use dirty water because they don’t have the money to purchase mineral water.
Saqib, resident of Yaseenganj, says, “ The nullah in the locality requires cleaning. We have complained about the dirty water supply to the Jal Sansthan, but the concerned JE has not yet visited the locality.”
Abbas Hasan of Katra Bizen Beg says , “ The area of Katra Bizen Beg , Chaupatiyan, Campbell Road and other adjacent localities have been receiving only half hour of water supply in the day. The water supplied is stinking, and not fit even for animals to drink. The Jal Sansthan staff says the local tube well has developed some technical snags and is lying out of order from last four months.
The residents are planning to gherao the Jal Sansthan office if the water supply remains same for two more days.”
