Addressing a public meeting at Phulawarisharif in favour of BJP candidate Dr CP Thakur, the Basanti of Sholay fame said, “Itne dino se aapne parde par dekha, mein apke manoranjan ke liya nahi aayi, balki Atalji ko jitane aayi hoon (for long you have seen me on screens. I have not come here to entertain you but to seek vote for Atalji).”
Tracing the long and glorious history of Bihar, she said, “The state has a rich historical and cultural background. It had produced leaders like Rajen Babu, JP and Jagjivan Ram. It has produced good bureaucrats. But it is ironical that the state is lagging behind.”
In a well-orchestrated speech she pulled up the Bihar government for poor law and order and said, “Women are not safe here and crime against women is continuing. This saddens me.” Much to the delight of the crowd, she did not forget to make a reference to Bihar roads.
“Last time when I came to attend a function at Rajgir, the roads were really horrible,” she said drawing a spontaneous clapping from the crowd. Urging the crowd to vote in favour of the BJP candidate to help the nation attain dizzy heights, she recited a poem based on her film Baghbaan: Jab Baghbaan Atal ho irade ka. Phoolo ki tasveer badal jati hai. Jab Atal ho baghban to phulo ki taqdeer badal jati hai.
No plans to campaign for Veeru: Basanti
Even though Basanti is canvassing for BJP candidates across the country, she has no plans to campaign for her own Veeru (Dharmendra) of Sholay fame.
The Rajya Sabha MP and cine actress, Hema Malini, said on Monday that at the moment she has no plans to go to Bikaner, from where Dharmendra (her husband) is contesting the polls on BJP ticket. “I think he is managing the things very well,” she said.
While talking to a group of reporters here on Monday she said, she wished to perform dance in Patna. Though finding the politics a bit to tough to handle when compared with shooting for films, she said, “I love challenges. I may not be knowing the ABC of politics but why shouldn’t I accept it. I am ready to explore it.”
