'I got vulgar calls after tabloid article'
Actress Preity Zinta says a local court that she had received vulgar calls on her cellphone following the publication of an article she has claimed was defamatory in a city tabloid.
Actress Preity Zinta on Wednesday told a local court that she had received vulgar calls on her cellphone following the publication of an article she has claimed was defamatory in a city tabloid.
Zinta was being cross-examined in the Girgaum court, in a case she filed in 2005.
The tabloid in question had printed a purported conversation between Bollywood star Salman Khan and another actor, where he spoke of his sexual relationship with Zinta. The audio tape was later declared a fake by a forensic laboratory.
Zinta told the court that after the article was published, she began receiving vulgar calls from someone claiming to be Khan. “I repeatedly received vulgar calls, which had never happened before in my nine-year career,” she said.
Zinta said when she threatened the caller with a police complaint, he handed over the phone to someone who claimed to be Shah Rukh Khan.
However, when asked if she had mentioned the article to the police while filing a complaint against the crank caller, Zinta said she had not. The actress also told defence lawyer Abad Ponda she was unsure of the exact date the article was published. The matter will next be heard on April 30.
