Despite a strict guideline, the LMC has received 225 tender applications for the 60 parking lots and 53 tehbazari spots in the city. The maximum number of tenders (82) were received for Zone I, while 21 tenders were received for Zone II, 19 tenders for parking and tehbazari were received in zone III, 53 tenders were received for the prime locations of zone IV, while 29 and 21 tenders were pooled for Zone V and VI respectively. Tenders have been invited again by LMC officials for 20 parking and 10 tehbazari places in the absence of proper competition. The LMC is expected to gain Rs 5 crores from these tenders.
“We want to take concrete steps to end overcharging and bullying by parking boys. We don’t want the parking mafia to take the contracts anymore. That’s why we have asked for the photograph of the contractor along with the affidavit and character certificate from DM. We will also take an undertaking regarding the following of LMC guidelines from the contractors before giving them the contracts,” said additional municipal commissioner AC Sinha.
On the condition of furnishing of wrong information by any of the contractors their contract would be terminated, besides black listing and heavy penalty imposed by the LMC.
A contractor would have to place a board in front of every parking lot carrying parking rates and phone numbers of the contractor and LMC officials.
Any contractors having the tender under Rs 1 lakh would be fined Rs 10,000 for violating LMC guidelines while those bidding for the tenders for Rs 1 lakh and above would be fined Rs 25,000 for the violation of LMC guidelines, said Sinha.
“Besides that blacklisted contractors would not be allowed to participate in the tender process in future,” he added.
He said, “We would conduct a special drive soon to check the working of new contractors, strict action would be taken against those found overcharging and violating LMC norms by issuing fake tokens and not placing the official parking rates board at the parking stands”.
