THE LUCKNOW Municipal Corporation has decided to shift the site of its slaughterhouse and carcass plant to Salempur Patwara village on Hardoi Road. Earlier, it was decided that the slaughterhouse would be set up at Shahpur Bhamrauli near Para village.
The decision to shift the slaughterhouse and an effluent treatment plant was taken after a high-level meeting of the Municipal Corporation officials on Thursday. The carcass plant in the Shahpur Bhamrauli was opposed by a local corporator from the ruling party.
Hind Agro Industries Limited, having its head office in Rajinder Nagar New Delhi, will build the plant.
Hind Industries director SK Ranjhan and its consultant Gautam K Sen inspected the new site with other LMC officials.
They were satisfied with the land. “We have decided to give them 20 bigha of land for slaughterhouse and carcass plant which the city requires. At present, in its absence, the animals are slaughtered at unhygienic places, resulting in the spread of epidemics.
Besides, the meat sellers are not getting the full value of their product like horns, skin and bones of the animals. These things usually go waste,” said municipal commissioner VP Singh.
He further said, “ We have also decided to shift the animal market from all over the city to a place near the slaughterhouse on Hardoi road so that the meat-sellers are able to purchase animals from the market and straight away go to slaughterhouse.”
