Mumbai records sixteen robberies in seventeen days this month, reports Jyoti Shelar.
In two fresh robberies, cash and silver coins worth Rs 8.5 lakh were taken from a spice shop in Dongri in the wee hours of Thursday. Robbers also took cash and jewellery worth Rs 16,000 from Kherwadi in Bandra on Friday.
That makes 16 robberies in 17 days in the city. The incidents come a day after Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil announced that 1,300 additional policemen will man the streets in the state to curb the rising spate of robberies. “On Thursday, we met the local jewellers after the spate of robberies in the city in the last few days and asked them to take precautions,” said RN Tadvi, deputy commissioner of police (Zone VIII).
