The Chinese film, which inaugurated the fest, left the viewers full of praise for it.

Mystifying artificial palm fronds greeted the audience as they arrived for inauguration of the 7th Osian's Cinefan Film Festival in Delhi.

The answer however came pretty soon, as they formed to the backdrop of the kalaripayattu performers who opened the festival with some acrobatic martial displays - heralding in no uncertain terms the special focus of the festival this year, martial arts.

The Festival got off to a glittering start in the capital on Friday evening with the lighting of the lamp for the 10-day festival.

The festival was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit with the traditional lighting of the lamp, who expressed happiness that Cinefan added to the attractiveness of delhi, especially after the loss of IFFI.

Donald Richie, veteran film writer and an expert on Japanese cinema was honoured with the Osian's Cinefan Lifetime Achievement Award. "My part lies in taking cinema to the rest of the world, and I hope and am being honoured for that.'

The jury for the four competition sections were introduced to a glittering array of stars from both India and Asia.

Also welcoming the guests were the Chairman of Osian, Neville Tuli and Festival Director, Aruna Vasudev.

The opening film of the festival was the Chinese film, ShanghaiDreams, directed by Wang Xiaoshuai.
