The Mumbai police on Friday said they suspected the involvement of two more people in the murder of former Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) human resources executive Sheena Bora.

The Mumbai police on Friday said they suspected the involvement of two more people in the murder of former Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) human resources executive Sheena Bora.

This came to light after the accused in the case — INX media co-founder Indrani Mukerjea, her driver Shyam Rai — were interrogated by the police, and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna was produced before the Bandra metropolitan magistrate’s court.

Police said the driver claimed that Indrani had called Khanna on the night of April 23, 2012, and had a long conversation with him. She then booked a room at Hotel Hilltop in Worli, Mumbai, Rai had claimed.

Later, on April 24, Khanna came to Mumbai and stayed at the hotel, Rai had told the police.

At around 7 pm, Indrani and Khanna went to Bandra, and stopped their car near the Jockey Exclusive shop (near National College) at Linking Road.

They waited for some time and then picked up Sheena from the same place, Rai said.

He added that Khanna strangled Sheena and then put the body in a bag with help from Indrani. Rai claimed the bag was then kept in the trunk of the car.

Rai also told the police that he then drove the vehicle to a secluded and thickly-forested place near Gagode village where they poured petrol on the bag and set it on fire.

It was around 4 am on April 25 that the body was destroyed, Rai had told the police.

He added they had left the place only after Indrani and Khanna were sure that the bag had been completely burnt and there were no remains, Rai said.

Police have noticed that the sequence of events between 7 pm and 4 am are missing from Rai’s statements, which makes them suspect that there could be more people involved in the murder.

“The way the crime has been executed is serious in nature. And there are more people involved in it,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity.
