Sheena case: Indrani, driver in judicial custody till Sept 21

Indrani Mukerjea, who has been accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, and her driver Shyamwar Rai were on Monday remanded to judicial custody till September 21 by a Mumbai court.

Indrani and Rai, who has been named as an accomplice in the murder, were produced before the additional chief metropolitan magistrate's court in Bandra. Indrani, the wife of former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea, was arrested on August 25.

Khar Police informed the court that they could not produce the third accused Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani's ex-husband, in the court as he was taken to Kolkata on an early morning flight. They told the court they will produce Khanna before a magistrate in Kolkata and then bring him to the Bandra court on Tuesday.

The three have been accused of allegedly killing Sheena and taking her body to a forest near Gagode village in Pen tehsil of Raigad district, where they burnt it with petrol.

According to police sources, Indrani hatched the murder plot after she got back on talking terms with Khanna and their daughter Vidhi visited Kolkata. They started exchanging occasional phone calls after that, sources added.

Police say their relationship became better from January 2012 and they started talking to each other on a regular basis. Indrani convinced Khanna that both Sheena and her son Mikhail should be eliminated. She feared that if Sheena were to get married to Rahul, Peter's son from a previous marraige, their daughter Vidhi would lose a considerable amount of Peter's property.

The murder plan was firmed up over Skype while Indrani was in England.

Rai has told police that on April 24, 2012, Indrani and Khanna picked up Sheena near National College at Linking Road. The driver said he then drove the car to one of the dark and isolated bylanes near National College where he and Khanna strangled Sheena. They kept her body in the boot of the car which was parked in Indrani's garage

On April 25, 2012, all the three accused left with Sheena's body and burnt it in a thickly forested area of Gagode village.
