"The temperament of children in Bihar and UP is the same. Since this year, we can manage the budget to teach 60 students, we decided to come to UP and pick the other 30 from the neighbouring state," said Anand Kumar who loves

Why Super-30 candidates excel

During the first few weeks of coaching, students are motivated and their determination is strengthened.

"We make them believe that only education can help them become somebody in life and also improve the living condition of their family," says Anand.

They are shown a movie where a poor student has many answers to a question while the rich student enjoys life. The motivation makes students develop habit of reading up to 14 hours a day.

to teach maths.

Super 30, a highly innovative educational programme running under the banner of Ramanujan School of Mathematics, hunts for 30 meritorious students from among the economically backward sections of the society and grooms them for India's most prestigious institution - the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Students are provided absolutely free coaching, lodging and food.

In the last seven years, it has produced hundreds of IITians from extremely poor background. "We are expanding the service for students but the criterion for admission remains the same. The child has to be talented to pass the test we conduct and should come from a poor economic background," said Anand.

Super-30, managed by Anand and a small group of likeminded people, runs on the same since 1994, when it was started. Anand and his group of friends earn through tuitions and Anand's mother cooks food for all. No fee is charged from students comprising wards of brick kiln workers, rickshaw pullers, landless farmers and roadside vendors.

The forms for the tests to be conducted by Super-30 will be available at Union Bank of India, Hazratganj branch from August 1 and the test will be held on August 21. The eligibility is the same as that for IIT(JEE).

"We have decided to educate 60 students this year but it is not necessary that we stick to this figure. Even if we get two good students, we will take them to Bihar educate them and bring them back once the results are out," said Anand.
