Van Persie's epic goal lights up the Twitter world

The Netherlands crushed Spain 5-1 on Friday. Twitter citizens got into an overdrive as they came up with witty praises, criticisms and memes. Here's taking a look at the funniest ones that did the round.

It seems the Netherlands got their overdue revenge for the 2010 World Cup final from Spain by beating them hollow with a 5-1 score in their first match of the tournament.

As expected, the Twitter world upped their humour quotient as Netherlands scored goal after goal. Robin Van Persie scored two goals which included a fantastic diving header.

While commentators labelled Persie 'The Flying Dutchman', Tweeple took it a notch up (literally) and made Persie fly around the world.

But before that, a quick recap of the real deal.

And here's what the Twitter folk had to say.

Some made him fly around quite a bit. Even to the Seven Wonders of the World.

He then displayed his skills to beat a champion at Wrestlemania.

As if the real world wasn't enough, tweetizens sent Van Persie into the popular mobile game 'Flappy Bird'.

"Red Bull gives you wings." Some people tried to unravel the mystery behind his flying.

On the other hand, Casillas learnt that one bad match is all it takes to become the butt of all jokes. Critics left no stones unturned.

While most ripped apart Casillas blaming him for the defeat, some users came up to his rescue too.

When the entire world is going abuzz, Indians can't be far behind.

The comment that did the most rounds was that Casillas had been compromised and that the match was fixed.

Well when there are comparisons being made by Indians, cricket can't be far behind.

An advisory warning for Casillas caught our eye. This is something that all players and teams should keep in mind henceforth.
