It's not just the stars who can scorch the ramp with their ganjis, masses are two steps ahead in flaunting them with elan, notes Parmita Uniyal.

All of a sudden the city is waking up to the ganji fashion. Recently few of our desi celebrities Vikas Bhalla, Leander Paes and Yash Birla were spotted donning some sexy vests. One wonders if banyans are all geared to become a new statement among fashionistas.

The king of Banyans Sallu has reiterated the trend by giving a titillating performance in his sexy vest at a recent rock star's concert in US. But we wonder how this hot outfit could be rechristened? A tee, banyan or ganji. Our imaginative readers might let their creative juices flow and think of some other name.

Fashion designer Ritu Kumar opines that the outfit should better be called T-shirt and not vest. She reasons: "They are popular among youth especially college-goers as they are comfortable to wear. We can even see the cool motifs and quotes that further accentuates the style quotient."

"The best thing is its weather adapatablity. We can wear vests and spaghettis inside a jacket or the other way," she adds.

We also asked Namrata Dhawan, a US based fashion designer about the emerging trend of ganjis on fashion street and she quips: "The stuff has already occupied the wardrobes of most of the fashion concious youth. They are smart enough to use the various permutations and combinations. Vests are actually emerging as the latest fad among Gen Z."

Even college goers consider it a 'must' in their wardrobe. As Sungandha Roy of Hindu college says: "By wearing a particular attire, we actually reflect our attitude. I believe that Spaghetti on girls and vests on boys is the hottest ever style statement as it reflects that we are the coolest."

Says another Delhi University student Sharda Sethia: "Times are changing and we can see that gen Z girls and boys don't want to be tagged as old fashioned and boring. That's why they are experimenting with outfits like vests and spaghetties."

So the verdict is clear: it's not just the stars who can scorch the ramp with their 'ganjis', masses are two steps ahead in flaunting them with elan.
