"Too many people are getting misled by wrong sources. This(book) is my attempt to reach out and help," says the Mumbai-based author,Natasha Pratap.

Vijaya Sharma in conversation with the author.

What the book is: A one-stop shop for all you students who are dreaming of making it to the Stanfords and Harvards in the US of A, but don't know where to find the right information, how to pen that right application which could bring that "accepted" letter from the desired varsity.

Amidst all this, are you feeling a little lost? This then is the book which promises to clear all those cobwebs and set you on your way to the varsity of your choice in the US.

Pratap advises: "All your attention should be on how to pen that perfect application. Don't let such secondary things defocus you."

What prompted the book:

When Pratap was still in the USA, a friend asked her to read his business school essays. Pratap says: "While there was no problem with his language, he was missing out on some vital points in the essay - such as what exactly would a school want to know from the essay.

"Also, when friends and acquaintances would ask me questions about their application or essays, I realised that some things that seemed obvious to me were not so to others. I scoured bookstores in Bombay and found that absolutely nothing had been published in India on the subject. To work on a book like this, you need to have experienced the system first-hand, you need to be a good writer, and you need to care about future applicants. The third criterion is, by far, the most important. The question that kept popping into my head was, "If not me, then who?" and I felt compelled to write. Indian students are very bright but many miss out studying in good universities in the US because the right advice is not available to them."
