December is winding down, bringing an end to 2015. The coming year will sow seeds of a high-voltage drama when Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will attempt to outdo each other to impress voters for MP assembly elections scheduled in 2018.

Below are major political developments to look forward to in Indore next year.

Big challenge

The next assembly elections would be two years away and both the BJP and the Congress will try to have a dedicated team of workers to outsmart each other.

For the BJP, which is in power in Madhya Pradesh for the last 12 years, the test would be to continue with their success while the Congress may have to look at a new mantra to beat their rivals.

Poll preparation

BJP legislators who represent eight of the nine assembly constituencies in Indore district will attempt to figure out their poll prospects and work accordingly which will mean stepping up voter-interaction and placating top leadership.

The Congress will struggle to make its nuts and bolts work in tandem so as to emerge a strong contender for elections.

Says Indore district Congress president and former legislator Antar Singh Darbar: “We need to prepare workers’ force down to polling booth level.”

Senior leaders cut off from party workers will have to go back to them to make Congress a cadre-based organisation like the BJP, he said.
