Vinayak Gurjar, the nine-year-old boy who was abducted by two unidentified men in Indore on Thursday evening, returned to his house in the wee hours of Friday. Police are trying to trace the abductors who, they say, dropped the boy near his house and fled.

The two men kidnapped Vinayak when he was playing with his sister a few metres away from his house at Scheme number 134 colony. The boy’s father, Kailash Gurjar, owns a grocery shop in the area.(Representative Photo)

“We believe someone living in or near the locality is behind the abduction. The route used to drop the boy was a shortcut and could only be known to someone who had been living there,” said a senior police officer probing the case.

At around 7pm on Thursday, the two men kidnapped Vinayak when he was playing with his sister a few metres away from his house at Scheme number 134 colony. The boy’s father, Kailash Gurjar, owns a grocery shop in the area.

According to the police, six teams have been formed to search for the boy across 13 villages surrounding Scheme number 134.

ASP Rakesh Kumar Singh said more than 20 youth — including the six teams — had joined the search for the boy on their motorcycles, which, he says, must have pressurised the abductors to release the boy.
