‘Third front’ in pipeline as elections approach in Rajasthan

Leaders of some newly floated parties and some independent MLAs opposed to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan are planning to join hands to fight the upcoming assembly elections.
Former BJP leader and MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari, who recently floated Bharat Vahini Party (BVP) and had earlier announced plans to field candidates in all 200 constituencies, is now in talks with some MLAs and small parties for forging an alliance.
Independent MLA Hanuman Beniwal on Sunday said that he plans to join hands with Tiwari to float a “third front” and sources said that there was a possibility of seat adjustments if the alliance came about although both the leaders were tightlipped about it.
“I am in talks with Beniwal and some other leaders, but will disclose my plans at a later date,” Tiwari said.
The Sanganer MLA, who is also taking out “Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra” across the state has accused the ruling party and chief minister Vasundhara Raje of “stealing” the name that he had announced a couple of days prior to the day when the state BJP had changed the name of chief minister’s yatra from ‘Suraj Gaurav yatra.’ Raje kicked off the yatra from Rajsamand on Saturday.
On Sunday, Loktantrik Janta Dal leader Sharad Yadav appealed to the opposition parties in Rajasthan to resolve their differences and come together to “save democracy and the Constitution.”
Yadav, who fell out with Nitish Kumar last year, said he regretted having campaigned in the past for chief minister Vasundhara Raje, and said people were being killed under her dispensation in the name of cows.
Yadav also took a jibe at Raje’s Gaurav Yatra and said the chief minister has not done any work in the state in the last four years for which she needed to undertake a yatra.
Yadav alleged the state government had worked to destroy rivers that restricted water inflow to Ramgarh dam, a lifeline for residents of Jaipur, to sell the land to mafia and builders.
He called upon party workers to resolve to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
Tiwari plans to start his poll yatra from his constituency at the end of this month. On August 19, his party will hold a Samarasta Sammelan in the Sanganer area where Tiwari will announce his election tour. Party’s Sanganer mandal executive, ward executive and senior workers joined the meeting have held discussions on the activities of the party that will take place during the coming weeks.
Sources said National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Amer MLA Navin Pilania could also join hands with Tiwari, although he refused to comment on the possibility.
Both Tiwari and Beniwal, who is the MLA from Khinvsar in Nagaur district, are popular in their constituencies. Sources said Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Rajasthan is also looking to tie up with other parties after being snubbed by the Congress. A clear scenario will emerge in the days to come.
