Kolkata: Governor will seek report on violence from election panel

“I returned to Kolkata this afternoon. I have gone through all the reports that appeared in the newspapers on Sunday. It’s a matter of grave concern and I’ll speak to my officials on Monday,” the Governor told HT on Sunday.
“I may seek a report from the state election commissioner. I think the commissioner, being a constitutional head, will take up the matter seriously and initiate necessary action. No report from the state poll panel has been received by my office yet,” Tripathi said.
The governor’s remark came four days after chief minister Mamata Banerjee fired a salvo at him saying, “I understand that in Delhi the police force is controlled by the Centre. But in my state, the governor directly writes to the Union home minister seeking paramilitary forces for civic polls, keeping the state in the dark.”
Mamata made the comment while addressing a meeting organized by her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi on September 30. She also alleged that the Bengal governor sent SMS to senior police officers seeking security cover for some BJP leaders in the state.
