‘Vision’ary tribute: Jagjit ghazals get Brailled

Considered as a tribute to the legendary Jagjit Singh, the collection would be launched on his first death anniversary on Wednesday.
The musical bouquet, 'Khwabon Ka Karwan' -comprises 156 ghazals, two each of 78 poets from the country and abroad. The book would be officially released during a function to be held at Paryatan Bhawan, here.
Incidentally, the day after, Thursday is World Sight Day -- a global event that focuses on creating awareness on vision impairment. The day is observed on the second Thursday of October every year.
"The collection is dedicated to Jagjit Singh on his death anniversary. This would be the first Braille book on ghazals in India," said Anwar-ulHasan 'Anwar' and Rohit Kumar 'Meet', the duo behind the idea.
The collection will cater to the countless visually impaired ghazal lovers and have ghazals from legendry poets like Mirza Ghalib and Mir Taqi Mir. The works of contemporary artistes like Bekal Utsahi, Anwar Jalalpuri and Munnawar Rana will also be a part of it.
"We have tried to include as many poets as we could to ensure a diverse variety. Depending on the demand, we can think of a next collection of another set of poets," said Anwar. This collection also contains ghazals of poets from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. An audio CD of ghazals will come free of cost with the book.
Anwar-ulHasan 'Anwar', himself a poet, recites the poems in the audio version. "Jagjitji had a rare quality of giving melodious tunes to the words of legends like Ghalib, Qateel Shifai, Firaq Gorakhpuri, Nida Fazli and Sudarshan Faakir," added Anwar.
Vidhan Sabha speaker Mata Prasad Pandey would be the chief guest during the release function. Noted poet Padmashree Bekal Utsahi would preside over the function while Rakesh Jain, founder of Rehabilitation Society for Visually Impaired (RSVI), would be among the guests of honour.
