The official remake of Bengali superhit Bhooter Bhabishyat, Mahie Gill, Meera Chopra-starrer Gang of Ghosts could have been an impressive satire. Unfortunately, the film fails to deliver on its promise.
Satish Kaushik's directorial venture
released this Friday.
The film is about a haunted house, which is being pulled down and will be replaced by a glitzy shopping mall. Ghosts belonging to different eras, social spheres and different parts of India reside in this house. The ghosts decide to fight their own battle against rampant development and win it.
With actors like Anupam Kher, Rajpal Yadav, Saurabh Shukla, Parambrata Chaterjee and Yashpal Sharma, this official remake of Bengali film Bhooter Bhabishyat promised an interesting satire.
However, the movie, that also features Jackie Shroff and
, pathetically fails.
Despite all genuine efforts at highlighting the problems of urbanisation, Gang of Ghosts fails to leave a mark. It talks about the evil of real estate, politicians caring only for their votes and more such problems in our society. Unfortunately, the film does not offer the right build-up for the audience to empathise with the pain of the characters.
You can certainly miss this Bhootiyapanthi, as they call it in the film.
