2 robbers shoot dead shop owner in Mumbai
One of the bullets hit 47-year-old Sadnisingh Chavda on the left side of his head and killed him
A 47-year-old wine shop owner was shot dead by two armed robbers in Goregaon (East) on Sunday. According to Vanrai police, the incident took place around 11.20pm near Virvani Industrial Estate, when the victim – Sadnisingh Chavla was heading home with his colleague Kamlesh Yadav, 35, after closing the wine shop.
The duo were carrying ₹2.5 lakh in their bags and were 100 metres away from the shop, when two unidentified men wearing masks approached them.
“One of them shot Chavla from behind on his head. The duo then took the bag and fled from the spot,” said a police officer.
Yadav immediately called one of his children for help. A patrolling police van also reached the spot within five minutes and rushed Chavla to a hospital in Jogeshwari. He was later shifted to another hospital in Andheri for better treatment, but he succumbed to his injury there.
Police have checked CCTV cameras installed in the area but did not find any leads. They are checking the cameras on the stretch from where the accused had fled. A case of murder has been registered at Vanrai police station, based on the complaint filed by the victim’s brother.
Chavla is a resident of Goregaon (West). He is survived by his father, brother, wife and two children – a 17-year-old son and a 19-year-old daughter.
Chavla’s cousin, Nitu Maini, told HT, “As per my knowledge, my brother did not have any enmity with anyone. He was a gentleman, and would never put up a fight or even risk his life for few lakh rupees. He would have given the money to the robbers. But I am informed that the robbers directly shot him and then robbed him.”
