According to the police, the accused, Mosses Cardoza, has been working with the firm for the past one year. “Cardoza was deployed at a site until last month. As the work at the site got over, the manager, Rishikant Vadkar, asked Cardoza to stay at home for a while. Vadkar promised to pay Cardoza his salary of Rs14,000 even when he was at home,” said an officer, requesting anonymity.

As other employees got their salaries in the first week of October, Cardoza started calling Vadkar, but the manager started to ignore him, said police.

On Monday, Cardoza went to the office with his wife and two daughters. “The four spent more than two hours in the office requesting the salary be paid as they didn’t even have money to eat. Vadkar asked the four to get out of his office. Angry, Cardoza removed the sickle from his bag and stabbed him,” said the officer.

Cardoza also attacked an office staff, Ashok Chavan, who tried to intervene, said the officer. Chavan escaped with minor injuries to his leg.

The accused was arrested from his home in Dombivli by a team of senior police inspector Sanjay Surve, police inspector Kadam, Mali, API Thorat, PSI Randheve.

Surve confirmed the incident and said they are investigating the case.
