The accused was not using a mobile phone for the last two months, which had made it difficult for the police to track him down.

According to Samata Nagar police, the accused Mithilesh Mishra suspected that his wife Archana, 22, was having an affair and beat her up after getting drunk. The couple from Bihar had married in 2013 and had a daughter.

Few years ago, Archana left him, after he constantly assaulted her, and she started living at her mother’s residence in Poisar, Kandivli (East).

On April 26, around 5.30pm, Mishra purportedly armed with a kitchen knife went to his mother-in-law’s residence in an inebriated state. He demanded his wife to return with him, but the mother-in-law, Manjula Devi, 53, asked him to leave. Enraged by this, Mishra stabbed Manjula three times in her stomach, chest and lower back.He then used the same knife to slash his wife’s face and neck six times. While Manjula died on the spot, her daughter survived. Police said that around three children from the area witnessed the attack.

“Mishra then ran away and hid inside a huge nullah next to Poisar. He bought some peanuts for the night and starved for four days inside the nullah,” a police official said. He was caught on Tuesday, when he was heading to a relative’s place in Poisar.

Mishra was not using a mobile phone for the last two months, which had made it difficult for the police to track him down.
