Incidentally around the same time, the security guard on the other end of the sea link trying to clear the traffic flow as a car had gotten stuck there
The Bandra police have ruled out abetment to suicide and security lapse in the incident on Monday night in which a 17-year-old boy jumped off from the Bandra Worli sea link and drowned.
Sources from the police said that the boy’s marriage proposal was turned down by a girl he was in apparently in love with which made him want to end his life.
The deceased Arunesh Nishad was a resident of Thane. The police said the deceased reached the sea link from a garden located at the Bandra reclaimation end of the link.
“We cannot say that the incident occurred due to a security lapse because incidentally around the same time, the security guard on the other end of the sea link trying to clear the traffic flow as a car had gotten stuck there,” said a police official.
“It appears that the deceased planned to jump off from a different spot in the sea link but he spotted the guard and decided to jump off from where he was. He left some message on his mobile to his brother and sister and jumped off leaving the phone behind. We are going to record statements of their parents. But they have not complained to us yet,” added the official.
The Bandra police said that under usual circumstances, the security on the sea link is good enough to avert such incidents as the guards keep patrolling the link however unfortunately, in this case, the guard got busy in controlling a traffic situation when the youth killed himself.
The Bandra police have registered a case of suicide. They said they would speak to their parents to know more about why he took the step and speak with the girl he was in allegedly in love with to know more about the case.
