As rappers ABY and Poetik Justis perform, graffiti artist NME will create a work of art based on their words.
All-female troupe The Handlebards will stage As You Like It while pedaling around with sets and props.
In all, 50 artistes, including actor Kalki Koechlin, lyricist Swanand Kirkire, singer Raghu Dixit and stand-up comedian Tanmay Bhat, will perform at Spoken 2017, a festival that aims to celebrate storytelling and the spoken word in new ways.
There will also be workshops on ancient folklore, improv, Shakespearian drama and lyric-writing.
The weekend event is organised annually by art collective Kommune, with performances in Urdu, English, Hindi and Kannada.
In a time of texting over talking, “the fest aims to show audiences how effective storytelling can be,” says Kommune content head Shamir Reuben.
So put down that phone and head on over! It’s time you looked someone in the eye as they spoke.
