Chhota Rajan threat? CBI for moving approver to Kalyan jail

Sep 18, 2016 11:18 AM IST

MUMBAI: In Mumbai’s underworld if one betrays the ‘don’, he pays with his life. And this is known to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as well because of which the agency approached the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) court to transfer Amit Sinha, a Chhota Rajan aide who turned against the extradited don and became an approver, from Yerwada Central Prison in Pune to Kalyan jail.

Sinha was arrested after he opened fire on a bookie-turned developer Ajay Gosaliya alias Ajay Ganga outside a mall in Malad on August 28, 2013. But after his arrest he turned into an approver, because of which members Rajan’s gang are vying for his blood, fears CBI.

Sinha, one of the shooter and conspirators in the firing case, was declared approver earlier this year after he agreed to reveal details of conspiracy and execution of the firing at Gosaliya. Sinha’s statement to the court, which will now be used as evidence against Rajan, states that the firing was ordered by the don to settle an old rivalry. The order of execution was given to one of the accused Satish Kalia and the conspiracy and planning was done by Sinha and Kalia.

But after the incident, Sinha had differences with Rajan, and decided to turn approver and went against his own gang members. Amid growing differences, CBI fears that Sinha, who was lodged in Yerwada jail, may be attacked by members of Rajan gang lodged in the same jail. The court observed, “There are a number of Rajan’s gang members lodged at Yerwada jail. Therefore, the applicant can be transferred to the jail at Kalyan.”
