Adnan Mulla, one of the accused who is now free of all charges, said he felt a burden was off his shoulder. “The court said there is no evidence against me, which proves I was not involved,” Mulla said.

Mulla was charged with supplying weapons to Saquib Nachan from Malegaon in April-May 2001. He was also charged with helping Muslim youths reach Mahuli hill near Padgha, where they were given training. Mulla claimed he had surrendered on May 5, 2003, but was shown arrested on June 10, 2003.

“I was under illegal detention for many days. Things at home had worsened. My brother and sisters had to shoulder the responsibilities,” Mulla said.

Haroon Rashid Lohar and Mohd Nadeem Mainuddin Paloba, too, have been acquitted, but they refused to speak to the media.
