Sarangi Mahajan wants cops to return husband’s belongings

More than three years after the death of Pravin Mahajan, his wife Sarangi moved court on Tuesday asking that her husband’s belongings, including a few letters, that had been seized by the police be returned to her.

A sessions court had sentenced Pravin to life imprisonment for killing his brother and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan in 2006.

Pravin died while he was on parole on March 3, 2010, following a brain haemorrhage.

After his death, all proceedings pending before the Bombay high court were abetted.

However, his belongings were still in the sessions court’s possession.

“By March, we had winded up all the proceedings pending with the high court. Now, we want to finish the remaining formalities with the lower court as well. We also had to pay a fine imposed by the court on Pravin while convicting him,” Sarangi said.

“The properties seized by the police include a computer, several documents, and letters written by Pramodji to Pravin,” she said.

The application is expected to come up for hearing later this week.

On April 22, 2006, Pravin had gone to Pramod’s Worli residence and fired three rounds at him with his revolver.

The BJP leader succumbed to his injuries on May 3.

Pravin was held guilty of murder and trespassing with an intention to commit an offence in 2007 He had challenged the verdict before the Bombay high court.

However, he died while the appea was pending.
