Actor, doctor and singer, Palash Sen, who will be performing in the Capital tomorrow, says that musicians in India don’t experiment much. The singer gets chatty about the Indian music scene while his band gears up to perform at the Raag Rang Festival.
Actor, doctor and singer, Palash Sen, who will be performing in the Capital tomorrow, says that musicians in India don’t experiment much.
“You look at international artists or bands like Coldplay, Maroon 5 or even Justin Timberlake and you see all of them experimenting with music. They all try new things and that’s how they become successful”, said Palash, the vocalist for Euphoria further added that Bollywood has hijacked the Indian music industry.
“Its all about money and power. And when you have both, you can do whatever you want. What I am disappointed about is the fact that they assume no social responsibility. They just do it all for money. Not that it is wrong but as a musician you have a social responsibility and they (Bollywood music industry) are not doing that”.
The 47-year-old also talked about his bias towards live shows. “Live shows help you as an artist to connect with the audience. A pre-recorded song with a video only needs an actor who is lip-syncing the words. When I am singing my songs to a live audience, I am telling my story and their reaction is the best way to know if they like you or not,” he says.
Palash will be performing in Delhi on day 6 of the annual Raag Rang Festival, that is on Saturday. The festival also featured Hindustani classical singer Shubha Mudgal, who sang verses from medieval Hindi poetry, along with Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi, Mohit Lalwani and many others.
Who is Palash? Palash Sen, the frontman and singer for the band Euphoria, founded the band in the Capital in 1988. A doctor by profession, Palash has also featured in a Bollywood film Filhaal in 2002 along with actor Sushmita Sen, Tabu and Sanjay Suri.
