According to me, delhi is the only city in north India where the audience sings along with the artist: Raghu Dixit, singer

Folk musician Raghu Dixit, 37, is in love with Delhi folks, quite literally. “We (musicians) love Delhi audiences!” says the singer known for his number Mysore Se Ayi. Dixit has performed in Delhi quite a few times, including the Delhi University annual fests. “According to me, it is the only city in north India where the audience sings along, even the songs in Kannada. I sometimes stop singing and it is amazing to see the crowd croon the lyrics of the number. They know the melody of the song and it feels really good when the audience picks up from where you leave,” he says.

Talking to us at the recently concluded Bacardi NH7 Weekender, held in the first week of October, Dixit feels that the Indian audience has matured over the years. “Gone are the days when the crowd wanted you to play some hit western number or a popular Hindi song. Now, they want to hear different artists performing their own original songs. College festivals, and of course the internet have been a great medium helping artists like us to not only show our love for music but also develop a sort of connect with the audience,” he adds.

The singer will be composing songs for an upcoming movie titled Amir Tani Ki List, which stars Vir Das. He believes that artists are pampered a lot in India when compared to other countries. “Here in India the management takes care of artists. In the West, for example at the Glastonbury festival, they don’t receive you from the airport and then escort you to the hotel. The artist/band has to take care of everything on their own, even their stage line up,” he says.

Ask the singer of what he thinks of girls in Delhi and he candidly admits,”They are the hottest! Obviously not as beautiful as girls from Mysore or Bengaluru (laughs), but yes they definitely are the hottest in the country.”
