Music is a fight
Popular Indie rock bands from across the country lock horns and guitars at an ongoing rockers’ fest in the city.
A one-hour slot on the radio, a music video, spa treatment, a free trip to Sirohi and a crate of beer, that’s the prize for the winner of the Battle of Bands competition. The competition aims at giving alternative and Indie rock bands from the country a chance to establish themselves. “All the time I’ve lived in Delhi, it’s felt like there was a gap in the live music scene. It turns out that there are great Indie bands out there. They just haven’t had the exposure they deserve, until now,” says Nathan Steele, co-founder of Delhi Indie Night, the organisers.
The festival, which saw about 60 bands register initially, has 12 of them making it to the heat rounds, where a set of 4 bands will battle it out over four Saturdays in April until one overall winner is announced at the grand finale on April 27. Andy Dodd, another founder of Delhi Indie Night, says, “There are no sponsors to this event. I wanted this to be all about music. So even though there are bands coming from outside the Capital, they have all paid for their own trip.”
Siddhant Agarwal , guitarist for the band Incredible Mind Funk, says that their band is a mix of various genres. “We play different genres involving a fusion of psychedelic rock, funk rock and Indie music. Inspired by Incubus and Advaita, I feel we have a very unique sound and coming into this competition, which is a tough one I think we have a good chance of going through the finals. The best part about this competition is the fact that there are no judges involved and the best band gets voted by the audience,” says Siddhant.
