The Week-Long Fun reloaded
With live acts by Pentagram and Shaa’ir+Func at the upcoming Gig Week, the third edition promises to entertain Capital’s music lovers
The Gig Week is back! And it’s more musical this time. In its third edition, the Week-long festival will see a total of 28 bands from all over the country. The festival was was born in August 2011 has seen many local favourites, such as Half Step Down, The Circus and Barefaced Liar play. This time, it has bands from across the country play it out.
Bands such as Spud in the Box (Mumbai), The Lightyears Explode (Mumbai) and Drawing Short Straws (Pune) have been creating a buzz in the country with their music and will be performing live. Apart from this, acts by Goddess Gagged, Bay Beat Collective, Nikhil D'Souza, Shaa’ir+Func and Pentagram will be headlining the show. “I’ve come across some extremely talented musicians, and even more wonderful people while working on this property for the past three years. The way the scene is growing, it spurs us to keep our little property going,” says Anubhav Gupta, the festival director.
The bands, too, can’t hide their excitement over playing at the event. Krishna Jhaveri, the bassist for Goddess Gagged feels headlining is a great honour. “Headlining is always great. Plus, the Delhi crowd is a lot of more intense when compared to the Mumbai crowd,” he says. Kamakshi Khanna, the singer from Obliviate, is heading for her first-ever solo performance. “I’m nervous you know, it’s my first time. But I’m giving it a shot because it’s for the love of music,” Kamakshi says, adding, “Festivals like these are brilliant because they support independent artists. Also, they are a proof that people want to listen to independent musicians.” Another singer to go solo this time is The Circus’ Abhishek Bhatia with his live act, Curtain Blue. “I’m still working on the crowd reaction. As Circus, we performed two years ago, so I am aware of how good the scene is. However, since I am solo this time, it all depends on me,” he says.
