Biker dies after being hit by speeding car on Noida-Greater Noida Expressway

A 30-year-old man died after a speeding Maruti Celerio hit his bike on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on Friday morning at about 9am.

Gaurav, a resident of Brahmpuri area in Delhi, was on his way to the bank at Sector 125 where he works when he was hit by the car. Police said the speeding Celerio that was heading towards Amity University hit his bike from behind near the HCL’s building.

“The impact of the accident was such that the victim was tossed in the air and landed 10-15 feet away from his bike. The passersby informed the police about the incident and the victim was rushed to the hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital,” said Amarnath Yadav, station house officer, Sector 39 police station.

Police said the Celerio was plying at a speed of over 100kmph and the driver pulled the brakes after spotting the bike but the speed led to the collision.

“We have detained an occupant of the car. We are questioning him to ascertain who was driving the car. A case of causing death due to negligence and rash driving was registered at Sector 39 police station,” said Yadav.

Police said the body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem, reports of which are awaited. Family of the deceased was informed about the incident and the body will be handed over to them once the autopsy is done, police said.
