During questioning, it was found that the accused was working for gangster Anil Dujana
The anti-extortion cell of the city police arrested a man, believed to be a member of the Anil Dujana gang, for allegedly demanding ₹1 crore from a businessman and also trying to grab a piece of land in Dankaur from the victim.
Police had announced a reward of ₹5,000 on the arrest of the accused, Balbir alias Bablu Dujana, 45, an active member of the Anil Dujana gang.
“The accused was changing locations to evade arrest. He made extortion calls earlier this month and threatened to kill the family members of the victim. Still not getting any money, he tried to grab his land,” said Sujata Singh, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.
Police said that after an FIR was registered against the suspect at Dankaur, the anti-extortion cell was pressed into service. The call details of the accused were checked and it was found that he was switching off his phone and changing numbers after making extortion calls.
“During the investigation the police team found that the suspect was about to reach Pari Chowk to meet some of his known persons. A trap was laid and policemen in plainclothes were deployed in the area. At about 6 am on Friday, the suspect was spotted near Pari Chowk and the police team immediately overpowered him,” said Singh.
Police said they have recovered a .315 bore countrymade pistol and two live cartridges from the possession of the accused.
“During questioning, it was found that the accused was working for gangster Anil Dujana. Almost entire gang is behind bars and the criminals are also financially broken. This was an attempt to get money for the functioning of the gang. He was produced in the court and was sent in judicial custody,” said Singh.
Meanwhile in another incident, the police also arrested a person who was involved in the murder of one Zuber at Bilaspur area on November 23. The accused, Danish, was arrested from his hideout from Bilaspur.
“Danish is a roadside vendor and he had a tiff with his fellow vendor Zuber. He said he had killed Zuber in a fit of rage. He was produced in the court and was sent to jail,” said Shailendra Pratap Singh, SHO, Dankaur.
