Noida authority provides the necessary infrastructure to the power department and its maintenance is taken care of by the department.

Officials said that the new transformers will benefit 30 residential and industrial sectors. They will be installed in sectors 5, 6, 11, 12, 22, 34, 53, 57, 58, 59, 60, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 76, 77, 81, 83, 84, 86, 121, 125, 126 and 131.

The outgoing superintending engineer of PVVNL, Mukul Singhal, said the Noida authority has approved the purchase of 50 transformers of 400 kVA capacity each but is yet to transfer funds for the same.

“We are yet to get Rs11 crore transferred to our account. As soon as we get the funds, we will transfer the same to our headquarters. Most likely, we will procure the transformers from the PVVNL store in Ghaziabad,” he said.

A large number of transformers in Noida get overloaded frequently. There are nearly 4,000 transformers of 25 kVA, 63 kVA, 100 kVA, 160 kVA, 250 kVA, 400 kVA, 630 kVA and 1000 kVA in Noida. According to the Singhal, over 1,000 of them are often overloaded, which sometimes leads to malfunctioning and low voltage supply.

The new transformers will not only reduce the burden on the existing infrastructure but will also improve the reliability of power supply, officials said.

“We will install the new transformers at critical areas where transformers get overloaded. Some of the transformers will also be installed in areas where there is a problem of low voltage due to the distance between the transformer and the consumer,” he said.

Singhal said the areas where the new transformers are to be installed have been identified by the executive engineers concerned. “Of the 50 new transformers, 12 transformers each will be installed in divisions 1 and 3, and 13 transformers each will be installed in divisions 2 and 5,” he said.

According to Singhal, it will take around two months from the date of procurement to install and set up the transformers.
