Separate connections for consumers in high-rises, says Noida electricity official

“Consumers have been paying extra for the last three years”.

Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commissioner (UPERC) chairman S.K. Aggarwal has agreed to allow flat owners living in multi-storeyed group housing societies to get individual electricity connections.

He announced it at the public hearing held at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra, Sector 6 to get suggestions and redress their grievances before deciding the electricity tariff for the financial year 2017-18.

Aggarwal said the guidelines on multiple point connections in group housing societies will be issued soon and the process for providing connections will follow. He also assured of making a provision in the budget to upgrade the infrastructure to provide multiple point connections to consumers.

Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) officers will be in a couple of months visiting group housing societies who request for it and check load requirements for the same.

The issue of higher tariff charged by the builder from the residents of high-rise buildings dominated the discussion at the public hearing. The deliberations also included restricting builders from overcharging allottees in the group housing societies.

Confederation of NCR Residents Welfare Associations president P.S. Jain raised the issue of regulatory surcharge and the rebate paid on the bills paid by the consumers before due date not getting reflected in the next billing cycle. He said consumers have been paying extra for the last three years and each year the power department has been collecting over 5 crore every year from consumers on this account.

Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) delegation headed by its patron AN Dhawan gave a presentation before the UPERC. FONRWA demanded reduction in tariff for Noida, abolition of fixed charges, abolition of regulatory charge, payment of interest on security deposits on regular basis.

The chairman, UPERC assured those present that all the points raised by them will be considered favourably.

The meeting was also attended by PVVNL managing director Abhishek Prakash, PVVNL director (finance), PVVNL director (commercial), PVVNL director (personnel) and other officials of the power department.

Representatives of Noida Entrepreneurs Association, residents welfare associations from Ghaziabad add Meerut, farmers’ representative from Muzaffarnagar were also present at the meeting.
