After a series of complaints from residents about poor response from the police teams and poor security arrangements, Singh launched the WhatsApp group.
“The group is limited to the members of the RWA of each residential society, beat officers of all residential blocks and societies, and heads of all police posts and police stations. The residents can share whatever problems they are facing for a quick response. I will be monitoring the response of the police officials,” Singh, an IITan from Roorkee, who had joined the city SP (rural) post on October 21, said.
Singh, of Patna in Bihar, completed her class 12 education from Patna Science College and joined the Indian Institute of Technology’s Roorkee branch to pursue architecture. After graduating from IIT, she launched a startup and simultaneously prepared to give the civil services examinations. She was selected in her first attempt and was posted at Moradabad in 2012.
“The need of the hour is to restore communication between the residents and the police. Also, residents must not hesitate to meet any police officer. My aim is to make a crystal-clear system for the benefit of the residents. I will personally monitor the WhatsApp group and the response by department officials,” Singh said.
At a meeting with residents on Sunday, Singh had asked the RWAs to maintain records of the maintenance charges paid. She also urged RWAs to get close circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in their society.
“The CCTV cameras will be of great help to the police. RWAs must disclose the revenue generated through maintenance charges and try to explore possibilities of installing CCTV cameras,” Singh said.
Besides a group for residents, another WhatsApp group is functional for industrial units that is also monitored by her. “The city is based on industries. With their cooperation, we have decided to keep all industrial areas lit. Also, during a recent meeting, owners of industries said that they will hire security in a group, for four to five units, with one security agency for better coordination with the police,” she said.
