Neeraj’s surprise to Narsingh’s shocker: How Twitter took both the news
How Twitter reacted to Neeraj Chopra becoming the first Indian athlete to win javelin throw world championship in Poland and Indian wrestler Narsingh Yadav failing the dope test just 11 days before of Rio Games.
First a surprise, then a shock! That’s how Sunday morning was for the Indian sporting world.
On late Saturday, Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian athlete to win javelin throw world championship in Poland, setting a new under-20 world record.
The 18-year-old was lauded by many sporting giants of the country for his gold medal-winning feat, for, it was for the first time an Indian had ascended this high in the sport:
But the pride of Indians was short lived when few hours later the National Anti-Doping Agency announced that Indian wrestler Narsingh Yadav had failed the dope test just 11 days before of Rio Games.
The selection of Yadav over the two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar had already made headlines last month and the news on Sunday morning came as a shocker. Many just couldn’t believe it.
Some also hoped Sushil Kumar to be allowed to represent and win a medal for India in the Rio Olympics starting August 5.
