The Kairouan medina, inscribed on the UNESCO heritage list since 1988, is surrounded with massive city walls which were under renovation when the accident took place according to Tunisia's Civil Protection.(AFP)

Two workers were also injured in the accident, as a 30-meter (100-foot) long section of the six-meter (20-foot) high walls near the Gate of the Floggers collapsed to the ground, as reported by the Civil Protection department. (AFP)
