The 2024 Met Gala will celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. Which got us thinking, what would be some great fashion looks from Bollywood over the years that would fit this theme perfectly? Exhibit A: Deepika Padukone rocked this purple number at the 2019 IIFA awards in Mumbai. Don't you think it's giving quite the Disney princess vibe with its stunning veil, feather details and sparkle and shimmer all over?

Aishwarya Rai never looks more like a Disney princess than in this blue number from a Cannes Film Festival appearance in 2017. The sleeves are very Princess Aurora aka Sleeping Beauty, and so is the blue of her dress. The MET Gala exhibit will feature approximately 250 rare items drawn from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection.

This year's theme is The Garden of Time, inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story of the same name. Expect some whimsical, ethereal, fairytale-inspired looks like this dress worn by Alia Bhatt to IIFA Awards in 2019.

Isn't Priyanka Chopra giving Belle from Beauty and the Beast in this all-yellow look? She wore this to the Red Sea Film Festival in 2022. The exhibit this year includes 250 items from The Costume Institute’s permanent collection, including some garments very rarely seen in public and so fragile they need to be under glass.

One should expect some vintage pieces too. Imagine how cool it would be if someone from India turns up wearing this beautiful piece by Oscar-winning costume designer Bhanu Athaiya from unreleased film Ek Tha Raja, Ek Thi Rani, worn by Nargis.
