  • Yogi Adityanath on Friday was sworn in as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for a record second straight term - a feat that no other political leader in this role has achieved before him in the politically crucial state.
  • As many as 52 ministers, including Keshav Prasad Maurya, also took oath. Brajesh Pathak, who served as the law minister in Adityanath's previous cabinet, became the new deputy CM along with Maurya. He replaced Dinesh Sharma. Former governor of Uttarakhand Baby Rani Maurya is one of five women to have sworn in as a minister in Adityanath's new cabinet. As many as 21 ministers were retained, while 31 are first timers. Meanwhile, 22 ministers were dropped. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, and other union ministers, including Anurag Thakur, Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani. Chief ministers of several BJP-ruled states, including Madhya Pradesh's Shivraj Singh Chouhan, were also present at the swearing-in ceremony.
