When we are brought up in dysfunctional homes, the fear of abandonment gets imbibed in us at an early age. The absence of love and affection from our parents and caregivers fuels this fear. This further shapes our behavioural and thought patterns in our adulthood as well and impacts the way we behave in our adult relationships. “When we think about the fear of abandonment, our minds often jump to dramatic scenarios—heart-wrenching breakups, a partner walking out the door, or being left behind by someone we love,” wrote Therapist Stephanie Rigg. She further noted down how our fear of abandonment can show up in unexpected ways.(Unsplash)
