Omar Abdullah joins Rahul Gandhi in Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress leader calls off walk for alleged security lapse

- Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra is in its final leg in Jammu and Kashmir. The march resumed on Friday morning from the National Highway-44, Banihal Railway station, in the UT's Ramban district.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Omar Abdullah on Friday joined Rahul Gandhi in the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Banihal, Jammu and Kahmir. Later in the day, the Congress leader had to "cancel" his yatra due to an alleged security lapse at Quazigund. (AFP)

Omar Abdullah said the march is not being carried out for the image makeover of the Congress leader, but rather to change the situation and atmosphere of the country. He also said that he does not want to delve into Congress' stand on the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. (PTI)

"This morning during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, unfortunately, the police arrangement completely collapsed and the police who were supposed to manage the crowd was nowhere to be seen. My security people were very uncomfortable with me walking further on the yatra so I had to cancel my walk. Other yatris did the walk," Rahul Gandhi said addressing a press conference in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag. (PTI)

Gandhi talked about the security issues and said, "I think it is important the police manages the crowd so that we can do the yatra. It's very difficult for me to go against what my security people are recommending." (PTI)
