Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the Veerbhadra temple in Andhra Pradesh's Lepakshi and offered prayers there. Modi chanted mantras in praise of Lord Ram, listened to special hymns sung in Telugu and also witnessed a puppet show on the epic Ramayana. According to legend, Lepakshi is believed to be the spot where the mythical vulture Jatayu landed after sustaining severe injuries while trying to rescue Sita from the demon king Ravana, who had abducted her. The Lepakshi temple complex also has idols of Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Papanatheswara, Raghunatha, Rama and other deities. The Prime Minister was also seen listening to hymns at the Veerbhadra temple in Lepakshi. Prior to visiting the Veerbhadra temple, PM Modi also visited Shree Kala Ram temple in Maharashtra's Nashik a few days back.
