India were clinical for much of the first ODI against England except in the end, by which point the match was pretty much done and dusted. India lost three very quick wickets which meant that their margin of victory was only four wickets, but the fact that they had nearly 11 overs to spare gives a better idea of just how dominant they were in Nagpur. (AP) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

England batted first and threw away a sensational start with some horrendous running between the wickets, which resulted in Phil Salt being out for 43 in 26 balls. That ended a 75-run opening stand between him and Ben Duckett which came in just 53 balls. (AFP) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

England never managed to regain anything even close to the same momentum, with Duckett falling right after his opening partner. As was the case in the T20I series, captain Jos Buttler looked head and shoulders above his teammates as he scored 52 in 67 balls. He, however, fell to an innocous delivery from Axar Patel. Jacob Bethell struggled in his 59-run stand with Buttler which came in 87 balls but then found his feet and scored 51 in 64 balls. (PTI) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

Yashasvi Jaiswal showed a lot of promise on his much-awaited ODI debut but fell to some brilliant bowling from Jofra Archer having made 15 runs in 22 balls. Rohit Sharma's horror run of form continued as the Indian captain was dismissed by Saqib Mahmood for two runs. Both of India's openers were hence back in the hut within the first five overs. (PTI) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

However, Shreyas Iyer wiped off any advantage England may have gained from the early inroads by taking the pacers, particularly Jofra Archer, to the cleaners. (AP) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

Shubman Gill played the perfect second fiddle to Iyer as their partnership soared past 50 in just 28 balls, with the latter making sure to deposit every short ball that he got from the pacers to the boundary. Iyer raced past fifty in just 30 balls before abruptly falling to Jacob Bethell on 59 off 36. The stand ended on 94 off 64 balls.(PTI) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

There was no respite for England however as Axar Patel was promoted up the order and he seemed to continue from where Shreyas left off. (AFP) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

Axar Patel fell on 52 off 47 and the stand between him and Gill ended on 108 off 107 balls. The biggest question after that was whether Gill will get to his century before the end of the chase but that ended up not mattering at all as he fell to Mahmood on 87 off 96 balls. (ANI) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout
