Centuries by Will Young and Tom Latham, coupled with New Zealand now allowing the Pakistan batters any kind of momentum in the first 25 overs of their chase, helped the Kiwis beat the hosts by 60 runs to get off to a dominant start to the 2025 Champions Trophy. It was a see-saw first 10 overs, with New Zealand getting off to a quick start only to be rocked later as they lost three wickets in the first 17 overs. Naseem Shah got the all-important wicket of the in-form Kane Williamson, restricting the former New Zealand captain to a score of one. (AFP)

Pakistan's makeshift opener Saud Shakeel fell in the fourth over and captain Mohammad Rizwan was forced to come in with Fakhar still not being eligible to walk out. Rizwan fell after scoring three runs in 14 balls and the injured Fakhar ended up having a tortured stay in the middle. He couldn't run and ended up scoring 24 off 41 balls. (AFP)
