PMRDA CEO drops the Fadnavis card on ‘land bank’ worries for Pune Metro
PMRDA wants land belonging to Pune rural police at Pashan and within the College of Agriculture
PUNE The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has demanded that land belonging to the rural police, located at Pashan, and land belonging to the College of Agriculture, located at Shivajinagar, be handed over for commercial development under the proposed Metro project
In a statement to HT, Kiran Gitte, CEO, PMRDA, said he is confident for getting this land for executing the Metro project in the city. “Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis himself is keen on executing the Metro corridor between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, there is not going to be any problem getting this land,” Gitte said.
The PMRDA has planned the 23.33km Metro corridor between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar under the private public partnership (PPP) model. As a private player is going to invest in this project, the PMRDA is planning to give a land bank to the investor to compensate for investment in the Metro project. The PMRDA will create a land bank for this purpose which will help execute the Metro project on the PPP basis
Gitte told HT that as the PMRDA and the state government did not have enough money to for the Metro, it has planned to execute the Hyderabad model, where instead of giving money to the private players, the PMRDA will give a land bank.
Gitte said, “The PMRDA has made the demand for land owned by the Pune rural police which is located at Pashan near University chowk, as well for another piece of land at Agriculture college.”
“Both, Pune rural police and Agriculture college have enough land at prime locations. If needed, PMRDA will give them land in the outskirt areas. The state government will take the decision, but the PMRDA is confident of getting these lands for the Metro project. The Agriculture college has already given land to Mahametro for the Metro depot,” Gitte said.
Gitte said the PMRDA is acquiring 50 acres of land at Maan for a Metro depot and that the state government has given land near the Balewadi sports complex, which was earlier given to a hotel management institute.
