Jagdeep Singh, physics lecturer from Ludhiana district, was found drunken during duty hours.
Gurpal Singh, senior lab attendant from government high school, Aluna Palla, Ludhiana district, was also found drunken during duty hours, while Manjit Singh, PTI from government middle school, Phagwara in Kapurthala district, was also found drunken during teacher training seminar.
Under the Punjab civil services (penalty and appeal) rules, rule 4 (1) has been imposed on these three teachers.

Talking to Hindustan Times, director general, school education, Punjab, Kahan Singh Pannu said, "Teachers play an important role in student's life and students consider them as their role models. So we will not tolerate teachers being found drunken or high on drugs and strict action will be taken against teachers who are consuming drugs or alcohol during duty hours. Inspection teams are visiting government schools in all districts of Punjab and wherever teachers are found drunken or high on drugs they will be suspended."

The suspected teachers have to undergo medical examination so that consumption of alcohol or drug can be ascertained.

The school heads have also been directed that if they found any teacher drunken or caught consuming drugs during school hours they must inform the head office and their district office through email so that appropriate action can be taken against the teacher. Further, whatever the teacher will do, it will make an impact on students.

Before taking any action against a schoolteacher, a medical test should be done so that it can be checked that whether the teacher has consumed any drug or liquor. So to prove that teacher was indulging in some wrong activity, the school heads must send the medical report to the head office.
