Ludhiana vigilance bureau has arrested five officials at the Verka cattle feed plant, Khanna, on the charges of embezzlement and producing bogus physical verification certification of the stock. The bureau started investigation in the matter after Milkfed managing director Alak Nanda Dyal lodged a complaint.
Before filing the complaint, a committee formed by Dyal had conducted an internal inquiry into the matter. The internal inquiry team comprised Milkfed chief vigilance officer Swarn Lal, deputy manager (system) Bhupinder Singh and senior assistant Surinder Singh and found embezzlement. The inquiry, conducted in May 2014, found embezzlement and submitted its report to the MD.
SSP (vigilance) Satinder Singh said an FIR was lodged following the complaint made by Milkfed MD and the arrests were made. The accused have been identified as manager (production) Saurav Kumar Banerji; manager (production) Sarsewak Singh Gill; deputy manager (quality control) Jatinder Singh; general manager Varinder Kumar Kaul and store in-charge Rajinder Singh. They have been remanded in two-day police custody. Two of the accused, Sarsewak Singh Gill and Rajinder Singh, are members of physical verification committee of the plant.
Advocate Iqbal Singh, counsel of the accused, said: “My clients have been implicated in the matter. Cattle feed contains 8-10% moisture that evaporates over time. Losses during storage, and loading and unloading cannot be ruled out.”
