“Your confidence will take you to the heights you want to achieve.” Sangrur girl Subhreet Kaur Ghumman has proved this saying true by rocking the stage in the semi final of ‘India’s Got Talent’ TV show.

The 27-year-old differently-abled dancer, who belongs to Jhunda village of the district, has shot to fame with her second performance in the show, which was telecast on Sunday night.
Hers, surely, is a tale of grit. Subhreet’s father died when she was 9. She lost her left leg due to an accident in 2010. She became popular overnight when she cleared the auditions of Colors TV channel’s talent show ‘India’s Got Talent’ on November 18 last year. Talking to Hindustan Times, Subhreet shared the story of her struggle: “Since childhood I wanted to become a dancer. I had faced many challenges, including untimely death of my agriculturist father.”
“After recovering from trauma after my father’s death I decided to fulfil my dream, but I received another jolt and lost my leg in a road accident. My dreams were shattered as I was bed-ridden for one year. My mother did not lose hope and extended all her support to help me realise my dream,” she said.
“I started standing on one leg and gradually took to dancing. By 2012, I could dance on one leg,” she added.

Before going for the TV show audition, Shubreet undertook a short-term training course in dance from an academy at Chandigarh.
When asked about her experience at the TV show, Subhreet said, "Everybody liked my dance and the judges gave a standing ovation on my both performances, which is the biggest achievement for me."
On her forthcoming performance, she said, “As the finalists will be selected through voting I am hopeful of getting full support from the people of the country, especially from Punjab. I will visit Mumbai on February 27, the day when the results will be declared.” If she gets enough votes Shubreet will be through to the finals, where she could win a cash award of `50 lakh.
Subhreet’s mother Charanjeet Kaur Ghumman was elated over her daughter’s achievement. “Subhreet has proved that daughters are equal to sons and I pray that the God bless every parent with a girl like Subhreet,” she said.
