The gangrape of a two-year-old girl has not only put the police in a tizzy but also left parents of minors feeling insecure about their children's safety.

Meanwhile, the Ludhiana police, who have been failed to trace two such cases, are again under fire.

All theories of police have fallen flat in solving two cases of rape in which minor girls were killed after being raped. Even announcing a cash reward for informers did not work, and months after the crimes, the police are still groping in the dark.

On January 21 this year, the decomposed body of a six-year-old girl was recovered from a vacant plot in Ekta Colony of Gehlewal village of Basti Jodhewal. She was missing since January 12. The half naked body was buried under bricks and debries on the plot. It was later found that after raping the girl, the accused had strangulated her to death and hid the body under debris. The police had also recovered empty bottles of liquor, toffees and syringes from the spot.

Later, the police announced cash reward for the person giving information about the killer, but to no avail.

After three months of this incident, the mutilated body of a nine-year-old girl was found from a dried water tank in a vacant plot of Shakti Nagha on May 11. The girl was missing since April 22. After investigation the police had found that the girl was raped before being killed.

Both cases are remain unsolved. Crestfallen by attitude of the police, father of the nine-year-old girl had knocked the door of police commissioner, Human Right Commission Punjab, and director general of Punjab Police, pleading them to intervene. He had also warned the police if the case was not solved he, along with various organisations of the city, would initiate agitation against Ludhiana Police. But his please fell on deaf ears.
